The official grand opening of Tabby & Jack's, with giveaways, free haircuts and an appearance by Fitchburg Mayor Tom Clauder, will be Nov. Traveling cats will appreciate the modern Sleepypod mobile pet bed ($125), a small, dome-shaped tent, while the lounging kitty would dig Savvy Tabby's goldfish-shaped Neptune Napper ($50), a large tube that cats can play in. Tabby & Jack's also has a paw-full lot of quirky essentials for finicky felines. Dog coats and sweaters are especially popular. For extra-special days, try a cup of Yƶghund ($2), doggie frozen yogurt. You can reward your pup with Plato Pet Treats, available in duck or salmon strips ($9), or Meat Shoppe's meat-flavored tennis balls ($3). Alongside basics, Tabby & Jack's stocks such unique dog-training tools as Katie's Bumpers ($8), made of recycled materials. The store currently sells four different brands of raw frozen foods with natural enzymes, like Northwest Naturals' six-pound bags of beef ($20), bison ($23) and cat chow ($9). Pet owners can find local brands, like Fromm, as well as alternative foods. Tabby & Jack's tries to stay local and accommodate all budgets. Owners Michelle and Ken Lonergan opened Tabby & Jack's about a year ago off Gammon Road, and due to its success, recently moved to its newer, bigger location in Fitchburg. This mom-and-pop pet shop offers natural food and environmentally friendly supplies to owners who want to ensure that their cats and dogs live healthy lives and eat nutritious foods. At Tabby & Jack's organic pet store, dogs and cats can join in, too.
